BTC launched the concept of learning communities in 2012 to encourage pastors who are former students to make theological education accessible in their faith communities. This initiative came about when the then Principal of the College Professor Martin Pohlmann together with Dr Walter Maqoma received many queries about affordable and community-based education.
Learning Communities create a platform to bring quality theological education to people already in the ministry. They are a feedback component of the college where we are able to look at the learning communities and see how we can better improve our distance education offering.
Therefore, learning communities becomes centres of support for our distance students as theological education works effectively through community support.
